Sleek & Smooth

I picked up Jazz Samba by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd earlier this year and I continue to be amazed by it every day. As someone who casually likes both artists but never took them too seriously, I find it very suprising to find this much depth in this record. I think Byrd's playing on this album is his best and he seems to thrive in this environment which seems a little more laid back. On the other end, Getz seems to be getting a little more intense (as much as he is able to) with each track. This collaboration really works great and is paticuarly shown off in Samba Triste & E Loxo So.

If you are a casual fan of Bossanova or Jazz this is a great one to add to your collection as few CD's are better aimed for relaxing or cooking at home. You will instantly be lifted to another place which will be far better than wherever your head is at that time.

For reference this is often considered to be the cornerstone Bossanova-Pop album as it also ignited a generation of music and musicians. Some people also believe that this explosion led to the early death of this genre as it got to be very watered down over the 70's and up through today. However, the death of this genre is a small price to pay for this album in my opinion.
