- Tool--10,000 Days is set to release on 5/2. This is their first new album since 2001's Lateralus and I have high hopes on this one. Their last album and tour was a little too jam-band style for me but the first single, Vicarious (Listen Here) seems to be leaning a bit more toward the style I loved on Aenima. No matter what this band has earned my loyalty and I will be at Best Buy next Tuesday morning.
- Red Hot Chili Peppers--Stadium Arcadium is set to release the following week on 5/9 and is their first album in 4 years. So far I like the new single, Dani California and I like the fact this is a double album as well. However, I love the fact that this is recorded with Sir Rubin and this gives me nothing but hope. Again, this is one of the few bands who I really stick to so I will pick this up the day of as well.
- Twilight Singers--If anyone knows me in the slightest bit they know that Greg Dulli is the beginning and end to all my musical appreciations. I have loved everything he has touched from the Afghan Whigs to his solo work and now more than ever with the Twilight Singers. On 5/16 the new Twilight album, Powder Burns comes out and I am expecting the regular tour-de-force. A full review (Probably the only band I would do this for) will follow this purchase and I am sure I will hype this release again before it arrives. Also keep in mind that they will be at the Metro on 5/19 as well and this is a great place to see them as well.
So May is looking pretty damn good to me album wise but between now and then let me recommend Fireball Ministry and their most recent album, Their Rock Is Not Our Rock as this one is crisp and tight from beginning to end. Easily one of the best albums in the last 2-3 years for me so check it out if like some old school prog rock/metal (and a little Lemmy sounding).

I'll have to pull out my copy of Lateralus again. It's been so long that I'm having trouble "hearing" anything but "Schism" in my head right now. Love that song, though. Has an old Pink Floyd/Blue Oyster Cult kind of thing going in a twisted way. Nothing wrong with a '90s/'00s band giving a little nod to the old stuff now and again. The Chili Peppers are famous for that themselves. I must admit I like the latter-day, commercially-successful Peppers better than the old punk-funk mess that they never seemd to get quite right as far as I'm concerned. My theory was always that once they heard how much better the Beastie Boys' Check Your Head album was at getting the blend right, the Peppers just figured "fuck it" and never looked back. Give me "Under the Bridge", "Californication" or "Soul to Squeeze" over that old hybrid shit of theirs any day...
I buy the Floyd side always but it is the Blue Oyster side that gets at me. I have very little tolerance for self indulgent jams (Maybe my issue) and Lateralus had too many and the live show was just painful (Including the 45 minute video in between 2 sets).
On the Chili Peppers I think you should give the new one a listen as I do not think this is a return to Blood Sugar Sex Magik alone. I think this is a bit of a merging between new and old styles and a little more reliant on the guitar as opposed to their normal bass driven album.
However, do not focus too much on those as the one that matters is the next Dulli album, Powder Burns as that will be my pick to click for a good 2 years.
