Here is the breakdown:
- Stern (105.9 WCKG)--I still find Howard Stern to be one of the smartest and funniest guys on the radio today. I have very few problems with his show although at times I do find the parade of strippers and his 0% patience threshold a bit annoying. My biggest complaint is that you might get a 20 minute span of his actual show per hour as it has been completely taken over by commercials. It will be interesting to see what happens once he leaves terrestrial radio for Sirius. It will also be just as interesting to see if he is able to keep the edge that has made him so great without the censors as his main foil.
- Mancow(101.1 Q101)--How stupid do you have to be to listen to this jarhead. I am not sure if he is a crazy liberal or a gun-toting Christian but either way he is not articulate, bright or interesting. His show is about as poorly scripted as a John Stamos show and seems to have an endless parade of stupid guests. In my opinion both Stern & Jerry Springer should ask him to drop their old formats and come up with one on his own.
- Eddie & JoBo (96.3 B96)--These guys are like an ABC TV show; they might do something funny or semi-original once and then they will beat it to death for the next 6 months. In addition, they seem clueless in regards to the music that their station plays ("Today's R&B and Hip Hop"). Today's brilliant question asked by JoBo; "Is Jamie Foxx on this new Kanye West track?" If you are on a station with a tag line that states "Today's R&B & Hip Hop" such as "The Killer Bee" should you not know that? I would think you would know that tidbit if you are on today's Country stations as Kanye West is about as big as they get and his album is pretty damn anticipated. They also are like MTV in the fact that they only play about half a song as they think their audience is too stupid or braindead to fully listen and appreciate an entire song. We are not talking about a Zeppelin or Floyd song in the way they used to run 10 minutes, the average new song (Especially this stations songs) runs about 2-3 minutes at max so you would think they could play it all the way through.
- Eric & Cathy (101.9 WTMX)--This is simply as creepy as it gets with these two phony/syrupy/cuddly personalities which make up "Eric & Kathy In The Morning". They are truly marvelous at discussing inert topics and trying to make them out to be "dangerous" or "edgy". If a discussion regarding Brad Pitt or and NBC sitcom is considered dangerous or edgy to you than this is your station and the rest of us should kill ourselves before the blandness does. They should call this format "No opinions, no personalities, no soul radio for the middle aged". Someone has to kill these two quick before Rob Thomas gets famous again.
- DreX (103.5 KISS)--First off this is as dumb of a radio"Zoo" name gets. Second, their tag line is "DreX in the morning...It's a Three Way everyday" and that is jut plain bad. And finally they try to sound like they are in the WGCI sound booth with the big deep bass echo when they have the most pip-squeak voices you have ever had. Welcome to "Eric & Kathy" on steroids if you want a simple recap. And please someone needs to get rid of that tagline and change it to "We are sort of of edgy...I think".
I guess the bottom line is that all this sucks (Not Stern's actual show mind you) and I need a satellite radio soon.
