Newsman?

20 years to the day that Geraldo Rivera had his huge post-Superbowl special opening Al Capone's Secret Vaults. 20 years to the day that he found nothing at all. 20 years to the day that he should have buried his head in the sand and disappeared for good.

Thank your lucky stars though that he was able to resurrect his career and find a new home at....FOX. If you really want a sad, pathetic and fairly humiliating laugh take a look at his Geraldo at Large site as well.

I cannot dispute anything you have written about him. Geraldo put the "senational" in sensationalism.

BUT, on the other hand, my freshman year at U of I in Champaign, that episode of "Geraldo" where he got his nose broken fighting with white supremacists had to be the highest-rated TV episode on campus. And, it generated a lot of "street cred" for Geraldo, even though it appeared staged or at least WAY exaggerated to me.

It is hard to imagine what everyone's reactions have been to this bozo through the years. I was in junior high during the Capone thing and I just remember thinking that I finally figured out what "fraud" meant after watching it.

Oh, absolutely. There has never been a bigger, more over-hyped let-down than the Al Capone's Vault TV special. I think it proves beyond a doubt that the old adage, "there's no such thing as bad publicity" is true as true can be.
